MOOSEMAN OFFERS PRIZE PURSE

February 4, 2008- Professional and elite triathletes should take note… the Mooseman Long Course Triathlon, set for June 8, 2008, in Bristol, NH, is now offering a $4,950 prize purse for the top three male and female finishers, presented by Team Psycho. Team Psycho is contributing half of the purse as part of their effort to encourage the best elite athletes to attend. According to Carmen Monks, Team Psycho board member, “we want to give back to the sport and assist local race directors who have served the triathlon community by helping to promote first-rate events with elite fields. We feel that the Mooseman Triathlon is a great match for our team.” Although Mooseman has attracted local elites in the past, including last year’s winner, Alex Mroszczyk-McDonald, this is the first year that a prize purse has been offered for the Half-Iron Distance event.

Since 1991, Team Psycho has been dedicated to fostering excellence in the sport of triathlon in the New England region by competing in races, by promoting triathlon throughout the community, and by developing talented athletes through the Team Psycho Elite Development Program. Team Psycho Elite Development Program athletes include Jarrod Shoemaker- 2005 U23 National Champion and U.S. team member for the 2008 Beijing Olympics, Dede Griesbauer- Top American Woman (7th overall) at the 2007 Ironman World Championships (Kona, HI), Karen Smyers- 1995 Ironman World Champion and 6 time US Pro National Champion, and 2007 Under 23 National Champion Ethan Brown. The “MooseCash” prize purse, presented by Team Psycho, will be distributed as follows… $1500 to the 1st place male & female overall, $750 for 2nd place overall, and $225 for 3rd place overall. TIMBERMAN NAMED #1 “MUST-DO TRIATHLON ADVENTURE”

According to Triathlete Magazine (March 2006), racing the Timberman Triathlon in Gilford, New Hampshire is the number one “must-do triathlon adventure”. Why? Besides offering two world-class race events, a short-course triathlon and 70.3 triathlon (as well as the TimberKids Youth triathlon), Timberman has “the best post-race feast and party”. As T.J. Murphy of Triathlete suggests, you can “sit on the hillside, listen to live music and watch the stars come out”. This year Timberman joins the Ford Ironman 70.3 World Championship qualifying series, offering 100 slots to its top finishers. For those triathletes looking for more than just a personal record, Timberman goes the distance with an entire weekend of events and activities, including the “Timberkids” youth triathlon at Gunstock Recreation Area. Couple this with the race backdrop of clear, blue Lake Winnipesaukee and the White Mountains, and you have a ‘must-do triathlon adventure’.

Several professional triathletes agree, and have already committed to racing Timberman again this year. Sarah Reinertsen, the first female amputee to finish the Hawaii Ironman, will also be making her debut at the 2006 Timberman 70.3. She’ll be joined by her brother, Peter Reinertsen.
